What to See and Do in Region 9 Traverse City Area

32 Mile Color Tour starting downtown at the Cadillac City Park parking lot, head East toward Mitchell Street (away from lake) on Cass Street. At Cass/Mitchell traffic light, follow Cass/M-55 East all the way to M-66, approx. 9 miles. Turn left onto M-66 towards Lake City. Follow M-66 thru Lake City, to M-42. Turn left to go East onto M-42.

Enjoy autumns fall color traveling north on M-37 Old Center Road up the center of Old Mission Peninsula into Grand Traverse Bay. The route twists and turns over the hills of beautiful terrain and dotted with vineyards finally reaching the peak of the peninsula at Old Mission Lighthouse and State Park at Lake Michigan.

Willow Vineyards was established in 1992. It was and continues to be a work of passion and love, created and designed by John and Jo Crampton. The Simpson family has been growing fruit on the Leelanau Peninsula for three generations. Before the cultivation of vineyards, the Simpson’s were a cherry farming family caring for and harvesting over 300 acres. It was Bruce’s father, John Simpson who had the vision of vineyards and a winery.

Our story started 20 years ago visiting Leland as a family for the first time. The simplicity and beauty of the “tucked away” secret that is Leelanau has always been what we treasure most about the area.

Our Animal Park features alpacas, Nigerian dwarf goats and miniature donkeys! Admission includes grain to feed the alpacas. Visit us to experience this unique, family-friendly park!

Dave and Jane were introduced to Leelanau County in the late 1980’s when they stayed at Fountain Point Resort in Lake Leelanau. They never missed a year with their family at Fountain Point until 2002 when they built a second home in Leland. In 2004 Dave retired and they moved up to their home in Leland full time.

Every Summer in late June early July of the National Cherry Festival you will find cherry delights along with parades, family and kids events and entertainment. In all, there are more than 150 events along the shores of Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay.
