Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is located in Northwestern Lower Michigan along the eastern shoreline of Lake Michigan. The closest city is Traverse City, 25 miles to the east. Take a drive on the 7-mile drive Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive loop through the Beech-Maple forest and sand dunes and enjoy spectacular views of Glen Lake and Lake Michigan or take a dune hike along the Cottonwood Trail. You can also stop for a picnic at one of the picnic areas on the drive.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore welcomes you and your pets to enjoy the park together. Pets are generally permitted within the Lakeshore except in certain limited areas designated as "no-pet" areas. These areas can be identified by a "No Pets" sign and by referencing the map. A small percentage of the park has been closed to pets for the protection of wildlife and to ensure the enjoyment of all park visitors.
